Chanel Ombres Contraste Eyeshadow Duo in #70 Rose Majeur

January 24, 2014

I am a total sucker for pinks and purples.  Somehow, I got suckered into buying not 1 but 2 pink-purple duos…from the same brand in the same season!  I went from not wanting anything from the Chanel Notes du Printemps collection, to buying both the Illusion d’Ombre (here), and this Chanel Ombres Contraste Eyeshadow Duo in Rose Majeur (70).

It all started when I swatched Quadrille (here), and liked it more than I expected to, but still found it just a little blah.  And then I saw Rose Majeur and thought the color combination looked similar but better.  For starters, the pink in Rose Majeur is less salmon than that in Quadrille, leaning more towards peach which is more flattering on me, with a slight shimmery satin finish.  The mauve is darker and has a strong purple note in it, exactly what I thought the grey shade in Charming (reviewed here) was supposed to be but was not.

These are by no means earth-shattering colors…  In fact, I’m pretty certain we all have more than one of such shades in our makeup wardrobe.  But what drew me to this duo is the super wearable pairing which I’m sure has the potential to see daily action for many ladies.  Also, these Ombres Contraste Duos have some of the best textures from Chanel, perhaps not quite as top notch as Hourglass (a sample of them here and here), but certainly close enough.  And they don’t come by every day… the last time Chanel introduced a duo was for Holiday 2012, more than a year ago!

At USD42 for 2.5gm, Chanel Ombres Contraste Duo in Rose Majeur is possibly one of the most expensive eyeshadow out there!  So, however much I love it, I am convinced it is completely irrational.  Especially since Rose Majeur has neither the most unique colors nor textures in the market at the moment.  What do you think?

I fell in love with it when I swatched it. It is so dreamy but as you say, so very expensive. Haven’t bought it YET.

  4. I own Misty Soft in this duo formula and they are beautiful buttery soft and blend so well. OH My! Silverkis, you are going to cost me a fortune with all these fab Chanel reviews ha!ha!

  5. I love duos of Chanel, wished their quads would also have the same formula. But you are right, duos are rather expensive. Love plums too, LOL, ended up with both as you mentioned. Thanks for the review.

Yes, why can’t they produce quads of the same formula?! This particular Rose Majeur is too pretty to resist, but what’s with the miserable quantity?! I feel so ripped off…my poor bleeding wallet ;p
