Chanel Le Rouge Collection N°1 Lips

August 3, 2016

It’s been a heady few days, filled with warm reds, and I’m getting ready to wind it all down.  I wanted to do justice to each one of the products and feature them in separate posts that hopefully gave you time to ponder and appreciate their beauty.  Most times, it is a toss-up with just ploughing on in 1 massive swatch-heavy post, and I’d be interested to know your preference!  In any case, I just have a few lippies to show you today, so enjoy!

When I first heard that Chanel was introducing an all-red collection, my thoughts immediately went to lipsticks and nail polishes.  They managed to surpass all my expectations of course, and even in the lip department, who’d have thought there could be this many shades of red?!!  And as we all know, every lady deserves at least 1 red lipstick in her wardrobe.  If you’ve been too shy to wear a red lip before, or never found a shade that flattered your complexion, I urge you to check out Chanel Le Rouge Collection N°1, because there is not just 1, but 6 new lipsticks awaiting!

The collection consists of 2 Rouge Allure and 4 Rouge Allure Velvet.  I have most of them here except Rouge Allure Rouge Ingenue which is actually a nude beige, and Rouge Allure Velvet Rouge Feu which is a bright orange-red that I know I can’t pull off.

And because a bold lip requires a precise outline, Chanel has included 2 new Le Crayon Levres in this collection.  There has been at least 1 Chanel Le Crayon Levres in  my makeup pouch ever since I first started using makeup (which is almost 2 decades ago now!), and I cannot remember ever not having 1 in my stash.  These are dual-ended pencil liners, featuring a traditional pencil on 1 end and a very useful brush on the other for applying lipsticks right up to the edge and/or blending out the liner.  Each pencil comes with a Chanel sharpener, fancy I know.  I sneaked a swatch when I was at the counter, so here are both new shades this season – Desir (97) and Seduction (98).

Instead of a series of disjointed lip swatches, here are 4 full looks featuring other pieces of Le Rouge Collection N°1.  Ok, I cheated a little because 2 of them you have already seen over the last 2 days…

This is my absolute favorite look for this season… no shame selfie, featuring Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Audace (59).  This is the only limited edition shade from the collection, and is a stunning deep berry red that has an interesting muted edge to it and a rich luster.  Completely unexpected love because it looked so dark in the tube, but wears beautifully!

My other love is Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet 56 Rouge Charnel which is a classic red.  It is a nice cool-toned red that looks bright and happy on me.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet 58 Rouge Vie is another classic red which is a neutral-toned red that will suit many skin tones.  It’s a sexy hue that transitions well into an evening look.

Finally, Chanel Rouge Allure 169 Rouge Tentation is a sultry one for date night.  It is as beautiful as the rests, but perhaps less easy to pull off and more evening than day appropriate.  A little vampy too if you are that way inclined.

Whichever you choose, you are unlikely to go wrong with these red lips!  I was recently chatting with an Instagram friend who shared that she is afraid of wearing red lipsticks, and I am just aghasted.  Gals, never be afraid to stand out, exhibit your individuality and the world will thank you for it!  Just as flowers, we were made to beautify our surroundings, and we are all fearfully and wonderfully made.  So embrace your own brand of beauty, and express yourself!  It doesn’t have to be red lipsticks of course…. just saying.  😉

For other ideas on how to wear red this season, hop on over to my posts over the last 3 days to check out the rest of the Chanel Le Rouge Collection N°1!

Linda, all of these shades look stunning on you! I haven’t purchased any of these yet, but no other brand does red better than Chanel, which means I need to get at least one of these at some point in the near future! I’m leaning towards the limited edition one, no. 59, as I think a deep rich berry red looks very sophisticated, especially going into fall and winter. I love all the makeup looks you created, I know just how much work typically goes into creating such content. Great review, your blog is always such an inspiration to me!

Rouge Audace is definitely my colour! It’s ridiculous because I don’t wear these colours often, but still, I love them!

Great series of posts– love the completeness of your coverage of this collection. Rouge Vie is the one that the SA put on me and I am wearing it in my FB profile pic. There was like 100 degree heat in Philly where I escaped the heat to get into air conditioning. But I was still a lot pinker than usual. So not sure how it work ordinarily.

Hi Alison, thanks for sticking with me all week!! Glad to know that you enjoyed these separated posts rather than 1 long swatchathon. Rouge Vie is a classic one for sure, but not as exciting as Rouge Charnel or Rouge Audace… try those if you can!

Yes, I like that you gave all the products justice– fun to read. I followed your advice and tried Rouge Charnel– it’s very brightening and softens to a very pretty summer red as you wear it. Thank you for the suggestion.

Heaven… resolve starting to crumble. I went to the boutique multiple times and almost purchased Rouge Tentation as well, but didn’t because I have too many reds, but looking at you… whew! You look beautiful in ALL TEH REDS.

    • silverkis says:

Rouge Tentation is your kind of red, Belly!! It reminds me of your SL palette…. well, except its just 1 stick here. A woman can never have too many red lipsticks!!!

  6. Dom says:

Linda, the colors all look beautiful on you! I really love the time and effort it took for you to photograph each color! I purchased number 58 and I agree that it is indeed a beautiful standout color. Great post!
