Chanel Eyes Speak Volumes: Stylo Eyeshadows, Dimensions de Chanel & La Palette Sourcils de Chanel

June 14, 2016

Summer makeup to me is always about effortless and chic, and the best way to look great when you are on vacation is really with 1 of these Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows!  But much more than that, Chanel has given us a remarkable Dimensions de Chanel mascara to get stiletto high lashes in just 1-2 swipes; and La Palette Sourcils de Chanel for natural-looking brows to frame the face.

Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow is my favorite eyeshadow in a pen format.  I love the cooling sensation when I apply, the size is perfect for my relatively small eye area, and it is incredibly easy to blend.  Once it sets though, it doesn’t budget all day long even on my oily lids.  Not merely for the summer rush, whenever I am not testing out a new palette, I would automatically reach for one of these to get me ready for work.  Just twist up, swipe, blend and go.  No need to sharpen, they swivel back down safely and the caps click shut securely so no worries about a messy spill in the bag.

This is the 3rd year that Chanel has released these Stylo Eyeshadows, and I personally feel these are my favourite hues yet!

There isn’t a shade here that I wouldn’t wear!  From left to right:

I wear these Chanel Stylo Eyeshadows both on their own, but also I found they make great makeup bases.  I sometimes layer over some other powder to help the powders pop, and for greater complexity.

Dimensions de Chanel

Along with all the incredible eye makeup released in this collection, Chanel has also introduced a brand new mascara – Dimensions de Chanel.  I was very late to get on board with Chanel mascaras, and only just recently fell in love with Inimitable.  So I was a little bit skeptical when I tried on Dimensions… how much more can any mascara lift and lengthen my stubborn, downwards-pointing short Asian lashes??  And voila!

Dimensions de Chanel comparison

Helloo lashes!!  Do I even need to point out which eye has mascara on and which without?!  This is simply 2 coats of Dimensions de Chanel, with absolutely no curling done beforehand, and no base coat to lift.  Now excuse me while I pledge my eternal, undying love for this new mascara!!  The only problem is this is not yet a waterproof formula, and given my oily undereye area, this does smudge slightly as the day progresses.  So I would still wear it with a lash primer and this top coat.  Dimensions de Chanel is available 3 shades – Noir, Brun and Cobalt.

La Palette Sourcils de Chanel

Lastly, to frame the face, we all need good brows.   I’m so happy to finally see a brow palette from Chanel, as I always prefer using powders over pencils.  La Palette Sourcils de Chanel comes with a comprehensive set of tools to tweeze strays, brush hairs in place, and apply the powders.  There are 2 colour variations to choose from:

La Palette Sourcils de Chanel

The one I have is Brun, and I’m afraid the picture immediately above here is probably not competely accurate in shade due to store lighting.  I am also unable to swatch these for you as the pigments don’t lend themselves well to be picked up by finger.  Apart from the obvious dark/light bifurcation between Brun and Natural, the underlying tones of the shades are also different.

Out of all the brow palettes that I’ve tried so far, La Palette Sourcils de Chanel is the least pigmented, you really need to dig in with a stiff brow brush to pick up the pigments.  This characteristic makes the palette easier to work with for those who are just beginning to grapple with brows, or who are not yet so proficient with a brush.  It is much more forgiving, and allows a more natural shadow effect.  Once on, La Palette Sourcils de Chanel does not fade nor fall off.  On the other hand of course, if you’re looking to create Instagram brows, this is not for you.

And as always, I would like to leave you with a shameless selfie, featuring Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow in Vert Grise, Dimensions de Chanel in Noir, and La Palette Sourcils de Chanel in Brun.
