January is probably the most challenging month for our skin, with the post holiday-binging and being blasted by the full force of winter. For years now, I’ve been wanting to write a post about winter skincare, but somehow I never got around to it. This week though, I woke up with a real urge to create this post, which is going to be a departure from my usual product reviews, but really a sharing from my heart. I don’t consider myself a beauty guru, and I’m not one for whipping up my own masks and remedies at home. But our skin is the largest living organ in our bodies, whose sole purpose is to protect us from the extremities of our environment, and when it is exposed to sub-zero weather it is only right we honor and do what we can to protect it. So here are 5 tips that work for me (and a few product recommendations along the way), and I hope they help you too!

Hello 2019! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday with your family and loved ones. My son started primary school yesterday, which is a new milestone for him and a whole new change for the entire household as we all have to adapt to his new schedule. In previous years I’ve made resolutions relating to (buying less) makeup and (doing more) social media, but this year I find my interests straying in a whole new direction. I’d like to commit to living more in the moment, finding new experiences and hopefully having more memorable vacations with my son. I may be back home but my heart and mind are still tethered to that glorious week spent in the Maldives, and in case you hadn’t seen our videos yet, please do subscribe and check out Ezra’s youtube channel here (shameless plug!).
It may seem odd to kick off the year with an empties post, but there is an immense sense of achievement when I am able to properly bin a bunch of products without a sense of waste, and to memorialise them here on my blog. 2019 had seen the launch of many brands in Singapore, not all of them new in the world, but they certainly took their time. There wasn’t anything earth-shatteringly innovative that I’d seen, and personally am feeling a little tired by many brands, with the exception of Chanel which keeps growing stronger with every season. As such, I find it difficult to select “bests” or “worsts” for the year, instead I go back to my staples many of which are perennial favourites as you will find out below.

2018 has been a challenging year on multiple fronts, but it has also been liberating in a way as I learnt to hold less tightly onto immaterial things. Particularly, I no longer feel the compulsive need to review each and everything that comes my way, at the expense of my own personal life. Regardless, the year cannot end without me giving due homage to a handful of new releases from Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale that I’ve truly enjoyed.

The humble facial cleanser gets a facelift this season. Chanel has made a bold move to completely remove traditional segregations by product lines, and focus on developing a family of cleansers suitable for all skin types.

I am finally concluding my coverage of skin hydrating products! Today’s post is a sort of psychological wrapper for me because it features the earliest product that I acquired before making up my mind to create a series, and the most recent acquisition which is technically not marketed for dry skin but works like a charm. This pairing works best for those of you who have acne-prone skin like me, but whose skin is also dehydrated and hence cannot accommodate overly stripping products. The balance is delicate, and Tatcha does it so elegantly with its The Deep Cleanse and Water Cream.

Happy hump-day! This supposed mini-series on hydrating skincare seems to be taking forever to complete… I started this series 2 weeks ago [here] with the intention of wrapping it up within a week, but work and life got in the way. There are just a couple more to go, and today I’d like to introduce a trio poetically named – Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Collection.
