Chasing After the Glow with Becca!

December 23, 2015

Have you gotten your party makeup all sorted?  The strobing trend is still going strong, and there’s really no better time than now to make sure those cheekbones catch the light when the ball drops at midnight!  And with Becca, there are plenty of options to choose from!

Becca glowy makeup picks

Living in a hot, humid climate with an oily combination skin, I spent most of my life fearing the notion of adding sheen to my face.  But lately, with the new job, traveling and general busyness, my skin has turned quite dull and needs all the perking up it can get.

Becca Pearl Shimmering Perfector

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector is one of the brand’s cult products, and it is a liquid highlighter filled with light-reflecting pearls.  It is available in 4 different shades, and I picked Pearl which is a (well, for lack of a better descriptor) white pearl shade.  The water-based formula feels light on the skin, and adjusts well to your makeup so it never looks oily.  I found that it spreads out quite a bit, although the intensity is strong enough so that a tiny bit is really all you need.

When choosing between the many highlighting options that Becca has to offer, I found this liquid Shimmering Skin Perfector to be most versatile.  Unlike the pressed powder highlighters, this can be used all over the face together with my makeup base to bring luminosity to a dull complexion.  I also decided to go with Pearl as opposed to the other coloured versions as this is least likely to change the colour tone of my makeup and is hence most user-friendly.  You could of course opt for 1 of the others that lend some tinting properties to warm, brighten, etc as you need!

Becca Pearl Shimmering Perfector effects

In the picture above, notice the glow and brightening effect of Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl on the left side of my face.  I didn’t draw a line down the middle as I didn’t want to block the effect of the light-reflecting pigments down my nose ridge and also on my cupid’s bow where I had intentionally added a tiny bit more on the left side so you can see the contrast.  My skin tone here is at it’s worst possible, and I am planning to be covering over with a full coverage foundation, hence I’m not concerned about the extra glow, in fact, I need it!  The finished effect when layered over with foundation will be shown further down this post…. follow along for now!

Becca Afterglow Palette

Becca Afterglow Palette is a new release for Holiday 2015 featuring the brand’s 3 Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfectors and 2 of their Mineral Blushes.  This comes in a sleek rectangular palette that fits nicely in my hand, and although I wished the individual pans are larger for swirling a brush in, the shades are all nicely pigmented such that I really only needed to press a brush gently against the pan to pick up enough product for my cheeks!

From left to right, the shades are:

It is worth noting that this Afterglow Palette is warm-toned in general, and everything is highly pigmented.  Even though the highlighters have some sheerness and translucency in their base as expected, their colours translate well even when dusted on with a light hand, which is not always the case with other highlighters.  And following that vein, it is entirely possible to use the Becca Afterglow Palette on the eyes as well as the cheeks!

And here, after my full coverage makeup (applied on top of Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl), I added Rose Gold on my cheek bones and Moonstone on my chin and forehead.  I also used Topaz on the inner half of my lower lash line which brightens up my eye area as you can see above.

Becca MOTD

To demonstrate what I meant about using Becca Afterglow Palette on my eyes!  I’m really not happy with the texture of my skin here, but at least the glow on my cheeks and other high points of my face makes up for it somewhat!  The combined use of the liquid Shimmering Skin Perfector and various touches of Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed gives a very beautiful glow in my opinion, that brings my face to life even at its dullest possible condition.

Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle Guava

I could go on all day about Becca’s amazing highlighters, but I also happen to be crazy over the Becca Beach Tint Shimmer Souffle in Guava!  There are 6 shades in total, all first released in Summer 2014 (sadly behind the trend here!).  This is an innovative luminous blusher in a mousse-like gel that spreads out and applies like a dream!

Guava is a medium coral with a golden sheen.  It is super easy to sheer this one out to give that flush-from-within look, and also to build up colour by tapping on more lightly.  Whichever way you choose to wear it, Guava lends a nice luminous quality to my cheeks, allowing me to skip a highlighter there if I’m darting between parties!  It’s so much easier than toting another product and brush around for touch ups!

So there you have it!  Lots of light-infusing, glamorous options from Becca just in time for that big party!  If you are based in Singapore (or a handful of Asia-Pacific countries), you may check out Becca here [unaffiliated link] on Luxola and get it delivered to your home in time for Christmas!!

  1. I have a long Becca wish list to try. The palette is certainly in there with the Beach Tints. I will check that out this year in the States since we don’t have the brand here.

When are you traveling to the US, Sara? I may be there in March…. I LOVE the Beach Tint, seriously been using that for the past weeks. Can’t. stop. The Palette is amazing for traveling, and I love being able to try out a bit of everything without having to buy all the full sizes.

Oh I have this shimmer souffle thing and I really like it! I had a bottle of Pearl a few years back, but had to decant the liquid highlighter in a jar because the bottle went all sticky. I didn’t touch it for a long time, and I think the humidity here (not the heat because it’s stored in a cool dark place) just got to it.

Yay, that shimmer souffle thingy is awesome beans!! Hahaa… i had the same feeling about the bottle cap…. it felt very NARS-ish. But so far, my NARS stuff are staying well….which reminds me i prob need to bin a few of them….!
