Last night was Aveda’s inaugural Catwalks for Water in Singapore, held at NTUC Center’s auditorium. I have been a big supporter of Aveda (both the company and its products…see here) for its environmental friendliness and holistic approach towards beauty. In addition to reducing its own environmental footprint, Aveda has been a strong advocate in the fashion industry. Catwalks for Water is the culmination of these efforts, creating awareness for the lack of clean water in many parts of the world. It is also a platform to showcase the latest hair trends.
I was particularly fond of an animated video about Aveda’s clean water projects in Madagascar… designed by the children there!
Before the show, guests were given the opportunity to experience the vast array of Aveda products. There was a station where ladies were offered makeup touch-ups by makeup artists from Benefit and hair touch-ups using Aveda products.
Also, there was a station where we could determine our chakras, and select the right aromatherapy oil to complement our current state of minds. Apparently I was extremely tired and needed a boost of patchouli!
The show itself was an eye-opener for me. Ian Michael Black, Aveda Global Color Director, and Ricardo Dinis, Aveda Global Hair Cutting Director demonstrated the latest Spring / Summer 2013 trends. This season, Aveda has drawn on the inspiration of nature to create a collection aptly titled “Art of Nature”. Here are the 3 key looks:
The ombre effect is still in… for longer lengths, this is an opportunity to play with color below the chin without worrying about it clashing with skintone.
Moving away from last season’s bright reds, hair color now incorporates copper tones. However, it should not be rigid, single-tones. Rather, Ian encourages us to blend the colors to create a softer look.
To reinforce the ease of nature, Ricardo advocates putting in more layers to create light airy waves. The look is slightly messy, almost fresh-out-of-bed.
Bangs are particularly fashionable now. Trimming them above the eye makes the look even bolder!
To bring the looks to life in our local context, 5 teams from the local Aveda community had the opportunity to strut their stuff too!

Ricardo Dinis also demonstrated his layering technique to bring a sexy edge to the bob. He almost made me want to run out and get my hair chopped off!! My apologies for the fuzzy image here, but believe me, it’s COOL!
It was a really exciting event, full of blood-pumping music and inspirational looks. My heartfelt thanks to the lovely people at Aveda for inviting me! I’m really loving the soft blended colors, and light airy waves! What about you??
UPDATE: I got a chance to experience the SS13 looks for myself! Read all about it here!
