2018 has been a challenging year on multiple fronts, but it has also been liberating in a way as I learnt to hold less tightly onto immaterial things. Particularly, I no longer feel the compulsive need to review each and everything that comes my way, at the expense of my own personal life. Regardless, the year cannot end without me giving due homage to a handful of new releases from Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale that I’ve truly enjoyed.

I’m a big fan of Guerlain’s Orchidee Imperiale skincare collection, and even though I often have to put it aside to test other products, each time I return to the Orchidee Imperiale family, I fall in love all over again. I had raved about the Lip & Eye Cream before [reviewed here], and now there’s a lighter Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale The Eye Serum to be used alone or to complete your eye care ritual!

I realize I’m falling into obsessive-compulsive broken-record jabbering about Guerlain’s Orchidée Impériale range. For the record, I am not sponsored by Guerlain in any way, and I have yet to (oh pray it comes sooner than never) receive any of their Orchidée Impériale products for blog review purposes. The only reason I’m going on so, is because this stuff really works for me. Heart-breakingly, wallet-destroyingly, well. Obviously it may not work for everyone (oh lucky gals!), but for those of you still on the prowl for some self indulgence, here is the newly reformulated Orchidée Impériale Eye & Lip Cream!
Guerlain is constantly researching and improving their Orchidée Impériale range, using ingredients harvested from their exclusive Guerlain forest in Yunnan. In its initial launch, Guerlain promised to help preserve youth by protecting existing cells and lengthening their lifespans. Then in 2009, the 2nd-generation of Orchidée Impériale products claimed to restart cellular activity to turn back the clock. Now, with the new Gold Orchid Technology, cellular activity is re-energized so that skin looks revived.
I have tried their Eye & Lip Cream in the past, and wasn’t at all impressed by it. However, the recently improved formula has me looking on with renewed eyes. It all happened when I developed some sort of swollen, red, itchy patches under my eyes. Not quite sure how it happened, but it did. I tried applying cold compresses and other soothing eye therapies, but by the 3rd day I was prepared to go to the doctor. That night, I decided to dab some of the reformulated Orchidée Impériale Eye & Lip Cream on the area, and went to bed. The next morning, the swelling had almost disappeared, and there was no more itching!!!
Granted the eye cream is not touted for its reparative function, and not all of us develop weird under-eye maladies all the time. So how does the new eye cream really perform against usual needs? It is a rich cream texture, that still manages to feel light enough and absorbs fairly quickly without any lingering greasiness. It is certainly very nourishing, and something I would recommend for evenings only. With such rich creams, I don’t expect to help with dark eye circles, instead it should smoothen out wrinkles and provide some lifting. The latter property was visibly amiss in the previous iteration of the eye cream, but this latest generation does beautifully!
At SGD295, the Guerlain’s Orchidée Impériale Eye & Lip Cream is a splurge, but in the same ballpark range as La Mer and far cheaper than Cle de Peau and La Prairie. Given the face cream is almost double that, and the serum 2.5x the price (totally worth the money though! Read here), the eye cream seems like a worthy investment. After all, they do say that the eyes are the windows into the soul….

Hello my lovelies! As promised, I’m here to introduce you to a brand new foundation from the house of Guerlain – the Orchidée Impériale Cream Foundation! The Orchidée Impériale range of beauty products is the culmination of Guerlain’s ongoing quest for performance in and for beauty. With the introduction of this latest cream foundation, the Orchidée Impériale ritual is finally made whole.
“Because dazzling, youthful skin means a flawless, radiant complexion, free from pigmentation marks, Orchidée Impériale has broken new ground by combining the power to combat signs of ageing, boost radiance and even out skin tone in a luxuriously rich and silky cream foundation.”
The new, improved Imperial Orchid Molecular Extract (IOME)
The Orchidée Impériale Cream Foundation is a truly unique and different makeup base in so many aspects. For starters, it is so much more than make-up, comprising the Imperial Orchid Molecular Extract (IOME) that is at the heart of the Orchidée Impériale range. For the first time, the IOME is given an additional boost with the gold orchid, a new orchid with an extraordinary vital energy, unique in its ability to energise cell fertility which leads to skin construction and epidermal cell regeneration.
White Orchid Extract, also contained in the IOME soothes skin sensitivity by inhibiting inflammation mediators. It slows the dynamics of pigmentation processes by acting ahead of the key stages in the melanogenesis. It also helps to improve translucence and surface luminosity by acting on the five key encoding genes responsible for hydration, intercellular cohesion, renewal, proliferation and cellular differentiation/ renewal balance.
I’m already a fan of the existing Orchidée Impériale Longevity Concentrate (reviewed here), so I am really excited to experience all the goodness of IOME in a make-up product!
The Orchidée Impériale Cream Foundation breaks away from the current trend of sheer, “naked” skin make-up; offering classical medium–full coverage, that is also incredibly luminous and lightweight. Banish all your prior experiences with full coverage make-up of eons ago. Having used this Orchidée Impériale Cream Foundation throughout this week, I’m continually impressed by how much light it brings to my visage, and how weightless it really is. My skin looks like me, not masklike or cakey at all, just a whole lot better. It also doesn’t feel like I’ve got anything on, unlike the traditional full coverage foundation that I’ve tried in the past.
When I first heard that this was a “rich, cream foundation”, I was terrified that it would be oily, completely unsuitable for my combination skin. My current routine consists of a primer, followed by a quick spray of Guerlain’s Shine Control, foundation, a light dusting of loose powder, and a couple dabs of YSL pressed powder after lunch. Sounds foolproof? Not quite! I’ve still had foundations slipping and oxidizing on me in recent history (read about that other story here). I was very happy to find that Guerlain did not oversell the Orchidée Impériale Cream Foundation when it stated 8 hours’ coverage (I had actually been wearing this for 14 hours each day without major disaster). Just like with my Guerlain Parure Extreme (my HG last-all-day foundation), I needed a quick powder touch-up after lunch, and again after work if I wanted to go out for dinner. One of the days, I accidentally forgot my primer and Shine Control, and it was noticeably shinier, but nothing a little powder couldn’t fix.
This is indeed a luxuriously silky foundation. It glides on easily enough, dries fairly quick, and leaves a velvety matte, luminous finish. I was matched with shade 01 (Beige Pale), which is the 2nd lightest shade in the range (there are 4 shades in total).
As a cream foundation, it is thicker in consistency than its liquid counterparts. I found it easiest to just dab on a thin layer all over my face and blend with my flat-topped kabuki brush. I also tried applying with my fingers but found it harder to blend properly.
My biggest gripe is the jar packaging. Sure, it looks pretty, and is consistent with the rest of the Orchidée Impériale family. But, I really dislike having to re-dip my fingers into the jar as I apply my make-up, so unsanitary! Guerlain has included a plastic scoop which snaps onto the white plastic inner lid for lifting the product out of the jar, and a fairly decent foundation brush for application. However, I find it cumbersome and prone to getting incredibly messy. I would much rather prefer a pump dispenser, not to mention it would take up much less vanity space! On the flip side, a jar does allow you to get every last bit of product out (and at the price point, every drop counts!!!). I will probably transfer a small portion out to another container for everyday use to minimize contamination.
Sun & Environmental Protection
Orchidée Impériale Cream Foundation is the first skincare foundation from Guerlain to offer broad-spectrum protection with SPF25. The formula comprises a combination of UV filters to counter the harmful effects of UVA and UVB rays, and a derivative of vitamin E to combat free radicals.
The Orchidée Impériale Cream Foundation is a fresh and welcome take on make-up today. I love the classical medium-full coverage it provides, perfect for those days when my skin just needs more help, or special occasions when I need to be HD-flawless. It feels incredibly comfortable on, and lasts throughout my day. For Orchidée Impériale lovers, this is a wonderful way to complete the ritual. Guerlain boasts that the Orchidée Impériale Cream Foundation is capable of increasing skin radiance and smoothness, but I have yet to use this long enough to assess the actual skincare benefits.
However, I am not quite fond of the jar packaging, which I find unsanitary and messy. Also, the thicker consistency does take a bit more work to blend in, not a big problem if you have the right brush. The biggest hurdle, is probably the price….
At a hefty SGD$274 for 30ml, the Orchidée Impériale Cream Foundation is pure decadence, the ultimate luxury makeup! It is unlikely to become an everyday staple on many vanities. I nearly fainted when I found out the price. But for those who have been thinking about dipping your tips in the Orchidée Impériale experience (or die-hards like me), this may be a good way to experience the best of Guerlain. It is, after all, the “cheapest” member of the Orchidée Impériale range.

I have been looking for the perfect serum to add to my night time routine, and I think I have finally found The One!!! Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale Longevity Concentrate takes the age-defying power of Guerlain’s Imperial Orchid Molecular Extract to unparalleled heights of performance. This molecular blend of Guerlain orchids acts on the key mechanisms of cell longevity, and is the fruit of more than 12 years of research within the Orchidarium. The anti-aging action of the orchid extract is amplified through firming oat kernel and soy flour, ultra-moisturizing mango seed butter and jojoba esters, collagen-boosting centella asiatica leaf, plumping hyaluronic acid, and nutrient-rich lentil seed.
The serum is a rich yellowish fluid that smells absolutely heavenly! A small drop easily covers my entire face. It melts into my skin right away, leaving it looking instantly smoother and more radiant. The next morning, my skin looks plumper and more even in tone. After a week’s continuous use, my skin is visibly improved.
The packaging is incredibly forward-thinking, encased in an extraordinary vial that dispenses by a twist and pump. This ensures the precious contents are kept fresh and sanitary. The vial is carefully placed in a gorgeous box that feels solid and well-made.
My only gripe with the Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale Longevity Concentrate is the sky-high price!!! At SGD729, this is certainly on the luxury end of the market!
Perhaps a good way to dip your tips in the ultimate luxurious Orchidee Imperiale family is via the Guerlain Orchidee Imperiale Cream Foundation! Read the review here!

Every time Guerlain releases a new foundation, I feel like I have found my holy grail, and there’s no way to top it. But somehow, they keep managing to surprise me! I know this is a brand that does not seem to work for everybody, but for those lucky enough to find a good matching shade, Guerlain foundations can be your best secret weapon. For me, my latest beauty secret is Guerlain Parure Gold Foundation!
